Hello, Crossroads Family !
Like you, when Microsoft updates the program on my computer I get some new wallpaper pictures on my desktop. When I opened up my computer today, it was to a beautiful photo of Neuschwanstein Castle, the fairy-tale castle of King Ludwig II in Bavaria. I’ve had two opportunities to visit that castle — once with Diana and my parents when, at the last minute, I wasn’t able to take the tour because our baby daughter who was in a carrier on my back woke up from her nap screaming ! Then a second time, years later, when our family was vacationing near the castle, we all made the tour on a beautiful Sunday morning.
The high point of the castle tour for me was the throne room which, as I recall, was opened up to a view of the Alps and the second of the king’s castles in the distance. A cool mountain breeze was blowing through the room, and we were able to view the marble steps that led up to where the throne would ordinarily sit but was never built because the king had died.
I wish you could have been with me because it seemed like a small taste of what it might be like one day to be in the throne room of our King, the Lord Jesus ! What a thrill it will be to know the King, and what an honor it will be to be in His presence ! How beautiful the room will be (if, in fact, it is a room), and how beautiful the scenery all around will be !
In these days of political candidates and many other people vying for our trust, it’s great to remember that we really do have a King and Savior who is alive and at work today ! As we move forward this week, let’s be looking for ways He is at work. We should thank and praise Him whenever we encounter Him. I don’t know that I’ll ever visit Neuschwanstein Castle again, but I do believe that one day I’ll join you in some kind of a throne room belonging to the Lord Jesus ! What a wonderful day that will be ! In the meantime, let’s keep our relationship with Him alive !

The work on my neighbor’s porch is finished, at least as much as we’re able to do now. Many thanks to all who assistend, including a couple of friends from outside of our church ! Thanks to those who have brought food to the couple and checked on them. Cris is following up with insurance companies and contractors so that plans for re-construction of their porch can begin to be envisioned.
At our Newcomers Meeting last Sunday, the question was asked how someone new at Crossroads can get involved. Here are some thoughts in response to that question :
- We need people who are interested in building relationships with other people. As the church grows, we need connections to form so that ministry can happen in organic, caring ways. One way to start down a road to deeper relationships is to be part of the small groups happening this fall.
- We need people who will be committed to prayer and who will even be leaders of others in prayer. Join us tomorrow night, August 21 at 7:00 if you’re free. Strong ministry begins after a church has prayed.
- There is a need for a couple more people to be on the Crossroads Missions Team. We’re trying to deepen our commitment to long-distance missions and grow a vision for local outreach too. Let me know if that strikes a chord with you.
- If you are interested in taking the “Ten Steps” discipleship course and being trained to lead others, we need more people who feel equipped to do one-on-one discipleship. I would love to help you get plugged in. Let me know if you’re interested.
- There is likely to be a need in the future for additional help with children’s ministry on Sundays and at other times. Also, if you would like to join the Greeter rotation on Sunday mornings, I’m sure Erin Reedy could find a spot for you.
- A practical way to serve now is to sign up for a week to clean the church. Heather Vestal can help you know what needs to be done. You can sign up on the calendar at the back of the worship room.
Thank you to all the generous, serving hearts at Crossroads ! This is an exciting time to be part of a growing, vibrant church !

When the living creatures give glory, honor, and thanks to Him who sits on the throne, to Him who lives forever and ever, the twenty-four elders will fall down before Him who sits on the throne, and they will worship Him who lives forever and ever, and will cast their crowns before the throne, saying, “Worthy are You, our Lord and our God, to receive glory and honor and power; for You created all things, and because of Your will they existed, and were created.”
Revelation 4:9-11
