Walking the Walls

I’m very excited about the opportunity we have this fall to take a look at the big picture of ministry at Crossroads. Joe Chenoweth, Young Life Area Director and elder at Cornerstone Community (E-Free) Church in Harrisonville, is a friend and a coach God has provided to help us do this.

My hope for Crossroads is not only that we would have healthy ministry and vibrant spiritual life for those of us who are here now, but that we would build a ministry that can be long-lasting and self-sustaining and will be owned by others who come after us.

Joe’s “Walking the Walls” toolbox is built upon the story of Nehemiah who returned with other Jewish exiles from Babylon to the city of Jerusalem. There were people living in Jerusalem, but the walls were not built; the city was not safe and able to thrive and survive. Nehemiah made an inspection of the walls and had a vision to rebuild for a prosperous, God-blessed future. God’s hand was upon him, and the people of the city responded positively; they said very plainly, “Let us arise and build!” (Nehemiah 2:18).

Some of you have already been involved in the building up of a church. Some have helped build Crossroads in the past. But now has come the time to build again … to identify the gates (ministries) that need to be re-hung … and to build the walls, not only for God’s glory now, but into the future!

I hope you are excited about that! Joe has met once with the elders and their wives. Now his desire is to slowly bring the entire congregation into a God-led inspection of the walls and gates at Crossroads.

One thing you can do right away as a part of this process is to pray! Nehemiah was a man committed to prayer. He faced a lot of adversity in the re-building of the walls. At the beginning of the book, it appears that he spent about four months in prayer for the project God had put on his heart. God blessed Nehemiah’s praying.

As we move through August and into the new school year, will you pray for God to bless Crossroads with enthusiasm, vision, unity, energy, and commitment to re-build the walls! It’s a very exciting time in the history of our church! I’m so glad you’re a part of it!

August 26 (Sunday)

This is our quarterly “family” meeting to catch everyone up on goings-on at Crossroads, to make plans for the upcoming quarter, and to pray.

We should finish the meeting by 12:30 pm.

Birthright Needs

Birthright of Nevada is looking for a new Director and for additional loving and compassionate volunteers to help at the Birthright Center, 231 N. Cedar.

People are needed who would be willing to volunteer 3-6 hours per month during the center’s operating hours which are Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, 11 am to 2 pm. All volunteers are prepared with group and individual hands-on training.

Mothers-in-need find the love of Jesus and a renewed hope through the volunteers serving at Birthright.

If you’re interested, or if you have questions, call 417-448-1771 or email to nevada@birthright.org.

To wrap up…

• It’s an exciting time to be at Crossroads! God is at work in our lives, although there are also many needs. May the Lord open our eyes to serve him well, and gladly, in the coming days.
• When Moses asked God where he would find the meat being demanded by 600,000 men, along with women and children, God’s answer was: “Is the Lord’s power limited?” Keep that question in mind as you finish out this week! We know what the answer is!
• Please remember to include in your personal and small-group praying a request for God to bless the process of walking & inspecting the walls this fall at Crossroads.
• Please be in prayer for the organization of Young Life ministry to youth in Nevada for the coming school year. What a great need could be met by a Young Life ministry in Nevada! We are in need of leaders, support, and finances – three specific needs to pray for.

I look forward to seeing you this Sunday for good fellowship and worship of our living Lord!

— Tom
