Tom’s Midweek Greeting, December 15, 2021

December 15, 2021 By Tom Rea Leave a Comment

TMG

Dear Crossroads Family,

I’m looking forward to a special worship service this Sunday morning at 10:00 at the Community Center (200 N. Ash St.).

In our sermon, we’ll move ahead to Genesis 22 which is a pinnacle moment in the whole Bible — the story of Abraham being asked by God to offer his son Isaac as a burnt offering.  Genesis 22 announces the theme of the entire Old Testament, “Where is the lamb?”  It’s a story familiar to many of us, and it’s interesting to note that the entire incident began as a test:  “God tested Abraham …” (v. 1).  What do we learn about life’s tests from this story?

We’ll have good worship and singing this Sunday, and we’ll experience the good fellowship that is a mark of our church.  I hope to see you there!

Christmas Eve Service, December 24, 6:30 pm

Our Christmas Eve service won’t be just another sermon; no, we’re going to laugh, have fun, participate, sing, and celebrate the Lord’s birth!  Plan to be with us!  We’ll start right on time at 6:30.  Bring a friend or family members with you.  Cookies and hot chocolate will be served after the service.

Coming Up at Crossroads:

  • Worship this Sunday, 10:00, at the Community Center.
  • Friday, December 24 — Christmas Eve service beginning at 6:30 pm.
  • Saturday, December 25 — Merry Christmas!
  • Sunday, December 26 — Worship at 10 a.m. at the CC.
  • December 27 – January 2  Tom and family on break.  If you have a need during this time, please contact one of the other elders.  Thank you!
  • Sunday, January 2 — Worship at 10 a.m.

On the 2nd, you’ll enjoy meeting Jason Burrows, an Evangelical Free Church youth pastor from New Jersey who is currently studying at Midwestern Baptist Seminary in Kansas City.  Jason will preach in my place; our worship team will lead in worship, and Communion will be served.

  • Sunday, January 9 — Congregational Meeting following worship.

Please mark your calendar for an important congregational meeting on the 9th.  Everyone is welcome and encouraged to attend.  On the agenda: election of a church elder; financial report; approval of a 2022 church budget; prayer; and more.  Thanks for your involvement in the life and ministry of Crossroads Church!

At a time when the world seemed to be turned upside down, when right was called wrong and wrong was called right, the prophet Isaiah spoke these words:

“For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders.  And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.  Of the greatness of his government and peace there will be no end”  (Isaiah 9:6-7).

We celebrate that truth every day and especially during the next few weeks.  The Prince of Peace did come.  And Isaiah’s prophecy will be fulfilled completely when He comes again!

— Tom
