Dear Crossroads Family,
I hope you’re having a great week so far! I’ll be looking forward to seeing you this Sunday morning for fellowship and worship at the Community Center, 200 N. Ash Street. We’ll get started at 10:00, and we always have a great time!
According to my records, this will be my 300th sermon preached at Crossroads! At least, it’s the 300th one I have a record of on my computer! (I know I’ve lost a few over the years … and gladly got rid of a few, too!) I’m excited about the message God has for us this week in Genesis 17-18. We’ll take a look at the similarities between the birth of Isaac and the birth of Jesus … and ask why it’s important. “Miracle Births and Why They Mattered.” I hope you’ll be there.
I’ve enjoyed the interaction with several of you over last Sunday’s sermon from Genesis 16 and the story of Hagar. If you missed it, take a look at it on the Crossroads Facebook page. Sermons are usually posted there by Saturday evening each week.
Notes from last week’s Elders meeting:
I appreciate the thoughtful involvement of the other members of our Crossroads Elder Board, Cris, Dave, and Shane. We had a good meeting following worship last Sunday. Here are some notes for your consideration and prayer:
- Christmas Eve Service
We’ll have a Christmas Eve service on December 24th, 6:30 pm, at the Community Center. Please invite family or friends who would like to join others in worship and celebration that evening. Typically, our Christmas Eve service is on the short side; we’ll likely finish by 7:15.
- January Congregational Meeting
We have scheduled our annual January congregational meeting for Sunday, January 9, immediately following the worship service. Everyone is welcome and encouraged to attend. The two main agenda items will be the election of an Elder, and the approval of a 2022 church budget. This meeting is always a good way to kick off, and to pray over, the new year.
- Nominating Committee
Cris updated us on the work of the Nominating Committee toward the selection of a nominee for the Elder Board. Thanks to the Nominating Committee team of Cris, Donna, Erin, Julie, and Jessica.
We reviewed the financial report prepared for us by Stacey. (Thanks, Stacey, for all you do!) By God’s grace, our finances are in a healthy place, enabling us to grow ministry opportunities and to allow continued thinking on plans for a church home. The elders put together a budget proposal for 2022 which will be submitted to the congregation for approval.
- Building / Property Developments
We discussed various possibilities to consider as God grows the church Building Fund. Thank you to those who have given toward that fund. Cris continues to be the point person on the Elder Board if you have input to give on building ideas. Thank you!
The elders decided to increase Crossroads’ giving to missions in the 2022 budget. We set as a goal to select two missionary ventures in the coming year (one local and one international) which we can support regularly both financially and through prayer. Please be praying as we seek God’s leading in those choices.
- Tom vacation
I will take some time off from December 27 through January 2. Jason Burrows, an Evangelical Free Church youth pastor currently studying at Midwestern Seminary in Kansas City will preach for us on Sunday, January 2. I’ve met Jason, and you are really going to like him and the love He brings for God’s Word.
We took time to pray for each other and for the needs of the Crossroads flock.
“When the fullness of the time came, God sent forth His Son …” Galatians 4:4
See you Sunday!
