Hello, Crossroads Family !
No Immerse this week.
- An extra week to do your reading !
- Our next session : Wednesday, December 4, 7 pm.
- If you missed out on Immerse this semester, there will be a new Immerse series next semester. Our goal is to read through, and discuss, the entire Bible in three years.
Worship this Sunday morning at 10:00.
Hymn Study Small Group this Sunday evening, 6:30, at Diane and Marvin Knoche’s home.
- We would love to have you join us ! Good fellowship and personal reflection.
- This week’s hymns :
- Come, Thou Long-Expected Jesus
- Let All Mortal Flesh Keep Silence
In Psalms 145 and 146, there is a whole series of short statements that begin with “The Lord is …” or “He is …” or “The Lord …” plus something He does.
When you put these statements together in a single list, it’s both encouraging and mind-blowing !
- The Lord is gracious and merciful, slow to anger and great in lovingkindness.
- The Lord is good to all.
- The Lord sustains all who fall and raises up all who are bowed down.
- The Lord is righteous in all His ways and kind in all His deeds.
- The Lord is near to all who call upon Him.
- The Lord keeps all who love Him.
- The Lord sets the prisoners free.
- The Lord opens the eyes of the blind.
- The Lord raises up those who are bowed down. <– second time for this one !
- The Lord loves the righteous.
- The Lord protects the strangers.
- He supports the fatherless and the widow.
- He thwarts the way of the wicked.
- The Lord will reign forever.
We’ve had considerable discussion in Immerse this semester about whether the God of the Old Testament is an angrier God than what we see in the New Testament. And yet, Psalms 145 and 146 are from the Old Testament and declare that He is good and gracious and slow to anger ! These statements not only tell me something about God, but they tell me something about the writer of them. (David wrote Psalm 145 ; the author of Psalm 146 isn’t named.) What did David know that I don’t know ? What was different about David’s heart ? What is still dull and unbelieving about my own heart ?
At any rate, here are some wonderful truths about God for this Thanksgiving season ! He is a Father to those who know Him ! We can trust Him for these final weeks of 2024 and on into the future !
I hope you have a Happy Thanksgiving !
