Hello church family!
I’m looking forward to a good time together with you this coming Sunday! These are exciting times at Crossroads, and I’m looking forward to experiencing the Advent and Christmas seasons with you!
Our schedule for this coming Sunday morning at the Y:
Adult Bible Study, 9:00 – 9:45
Anyone is welcome to come join our study in the Book of Leviticus. We are looking at some powerful pictures and instructions of holy (whole) life. This Sunday we’ll finish looking at God’s Calendar (Leviticus 23) and take a look at the Sabbath and Jubilee Years as explained in Leviticus 25. Why these special years in the life of the Israelites? What do they mean for us?
Youth Bible Study, 9:00 – 9:45
All middle school and high school youth are invited to join the group for a good time of studying, sharing, and support!
Worship, 10:00 – 11:00
This will be the first of four Advent Sundays in which we’ll be taking four looks at the life and ministry of Jesus whose birth we celebrate at Christmas. Each of the four gospels presents Jesus from a slightly different perspective. This Sunday we’ll take a look at Matthew’s presentation of the Lord and what it means for us. We will also worship around the Communion table this Sunday.
Quarterly “Family” Meeting, 11:15 – 12:15
Please plan to join the church family for our regular quarterly meeting this Sunday, immediately following the worship service. We’ll try to make efficient use of our time and limit the meeting to an hour. On the agenda:
- finances, and input for a 2019 budget
- election of a Nominating Committee
- schedule for December and January
- Walk the Walls update
- prayer
I hope you can join us! Our meetings are informal but do set a direction for the next quarter of life at Crossroads. Thank you! Your kids are welcome to “hang out” with us at the Y while we meet.
Calendar Notes
We will continue to work on our Walk the Walls project at a meeting with Joe Chenoweth on Sunday, December 16, immediately following the worship service. Everyone is invited to attend. If you’ve been part of the process so far, we especially encourage you to attend. If you’ve felt a calling to be involved in one of the two ministry “gates” presented in November (The Sunday Morning Team, or The Follow-Up Team), we would love for you to join us on the 16th for about an hour after the worship service. Thank you! Please continue to pray for the coming together of these two important ministry teams!
Next Men’s Discipleship and Dinner – Monday, December 17, 6:30 – 8:00 pm, Woods Deli.
Been Reading
On a personal note, I (like some of you) am trying to finish reading through the Bible in a year. I have a couple of hefty Old Testament books still ahead of me for December! This past week I got started in 1 Chronicles. Ever read it? Not easy, … but actually very important.
Here’s the first sentence from the Book of 1 Chronicles (actually, not even a sentence – a list!):
“Adam, Seth, Enosh, Kenan, Mahalalel, Jared, Enoch, Methuselah, Lamech, Noah, Shem, Ham, and Japheth.” (1 Chronicles 1:1-4).
Do you know those people? Why do you think that list is there? What are we to gain from it today? (We’ll talk about it some more this Sunday. See you then!)
— Tom
