Tom’s Midweek Greeting

April 18, 2019
This is written of the Lord Jesus in Paul’s letter to the Philippians:

“Being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross.  For this reason also, God highly exalted Him, and bestowed on Him the name which is above every name, so that at the name of Jesus every knee will bow, of those who are in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and that every tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father” (Philippians 2:8-11).

What an amazing Savior!  Obedient to the Father, even to the point of suffering separation from the Father while on the cross.  Exalted, risen, and now reigning over the living and the dead.  One day all the people who have ever lived will bow their knee before Him, recognizing him as the rightful Lord of all creation.

I look forward to celebrating with you this coming Sunday morning at the YMCA.  Our morning will start with breakfast at 8:30, followed by plenty of time for fellowship.  Then we’ll worship together at 10:00.  As always, there will be Children’s Church and nursery care for the youngest ones during the sermon time, so feel free to invite someone who needs to connect with the good news of Easter.  There will be no 9:00 Bible study for youth this Sunday morning.

Easter Sunday Morning at the Y

  • Breakfast, 8:30
  • Worship, 10:00

Someone has written:  “Easter was when Hope, in person, surprised the whole world by coming forward from the future into the present.”

I like that thought.  Hope is something that is future; but the resurrection of Jesus makes it real to us today.  The Bible says the entire creation is groaning for release from death and decay.  The resurrection of Jesus reminds us that that longing will definitely be fulfilled.

In the meantime, what happens when we die?  Where does a person go when he/she dies?  How can we be sure?  What is a resurrected body like?  We’ll consider some of those questions this Sunday as part of our worship.  I hope you’ll be there!

Two More Notes…

Walking the Walls meeting with Joe Chenoweth – Sunday, May 5.

Please mark your calendar and plan to stay after worship on May 5 for an important meeting in Crossroads’ Walking the Walls project with Joe Chenoweth.  We’re developing ministry teams and strengthening ministry at Crossroads, just as Nehemiah and the Jews did in Jerusalem when they rebuilt the walls and gates of that city.

An interesting article on church attendance in America.

I read this article today and thought you might find it as interesting … and as challenging … as I did.  It’s from the Gallup organization and is called “U.S. Church Membership Down Sharply in Past Two Decades.”  It gives a picture of the sharp decline in church membership and attendance in America in just the past 20 years. https://news.gallup.com/poll/248837/church-membership-down-sharply-past-two-decades.aspx

I’m so thankful we have a good, growing church to be part of!  I look forward to seeing you Sunday!
