Tom’s Midweek Greeting August 27, 2020

Tom’s Midweek Greeting
Crossroads Community Church
Nevada, MO

Dear Crossroads Family,

This Sunday our sermon will be on “The Confident Life,” from Philippians 3:1-16.  Joy has been the theme throughout Paul’s letter to the Philippians; joy and confidence seem, to me, to go together.  Confidence really has to do with trust, doesn’t it?  The word “confidence” is related is some ways to the verb “to confide.”  When we confide something in someone it’s because we trust them.  What can help us live this confident, trust-filled life?  Come Sunday and let’s discover the answer together!  We’ll enjoy some fellowship, good worship, and we’ll have the joy of taking a look at this passage together.

Thanks for your good discussion and response to last Sunday’s sermon on friendship (Philippians 2:19-30).  As I thought afterwards, I wondered, “Are friendships a necessary part of church?”  My mind goes back to the amazing “one another” statements found throughout the New Testament which describe our relationships in the church:

  • Love one another.
  • Accept one another.
  • Encourage one another.
  • Spur one another on toward love and good deeds.
  • Consider one another as more important than yourself.
  • Forgive one another.
  • Bear with one another in love.
  • Pray for one another.
  • Comfort one another.
  • Be careful not to bite and devour one another.

The list goes on and on and describes relationships that are characterized by a special, Christ-filled friendship.  I hope we’ll take to heart the relationship-building ideas we talked about last Sunday.  The sermon is available on the Crossroads Facebook page.  I believe the Lord is pleased when things like these are happening in a church … and we are made better by it!

Here’s an idea for this Sunday – Sandwich Sunday.    If you don’t have plans after worship this Sunday, bring a sack lunch and we’ll spend a few minutes after the service having a sack lunch and visit.  We can social distance as needed.  No agenda – just some friendship time.

Crossroads Connection:  Our next carry-in and fellowship time will be Sunday, September 27, following worship.

A Prayer

Here’s a simple prayer from the Bible that you can pray for yourself and for others:

“You, therefore, beloved,… grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ” (2 Peter 3:17-18).

If we’re not growing in the grace of Jesus, and in the knowledge of Jesus, all the rest of what we’re doing is really without purpose.  May the Lord accomplish this for you and me as we finish out this week!

See you Sunday at 10:00!
— Tom
