Hello, Crossroads Family!
A quick note here at the midpoint of the week! I hope you’ve enjoyed the rain this morning!
I’m looking forward to our worship service this coming Sunday at 10:00 at the Community Center. Mike Gaster, an area representative for the Gideons, with be with us, along with his wife. Mike will have some exciting things to tell us about the Gideons’ ministry in Nevada and Vernon County. We’ll also continue our look at the life and ministry of Elisha. We’ll be in 2 Kings 4:1-7, if you want to read ahead.
Shane Dahmer will have a follow-up phone call today (Wednesday), on behalf of the Elder Board and the church, with the owner of the building on Highland Avenue where there is potential rental space for the church. Would you pray today for the Lord’s guidance in that conversation? Thank you. May God lead all of us together in our consideration of this possibility. Please feel free to visit with the elders; we’ll communicate what we know at the current time, and we look forward to a fuller discussion at the congregational meeting on August 20. Thank you for praying!
A reminder of a special family day on Sunday, August 20:
- Worship at 10:00.
- Congregational meeting immediately following worship.
- Lunch together at the Community Center following the meeting. We’ll enjoy a taco bar. Taco fixings and paper products will be provided. Please let Jamie or Kris Sisseck know if you can bring drinks and/or a dessert. Thank you!
Thanks to all who serve our children on Sunday mornings and at other times. That is hard and important work. Please keep those team members in your prayer (Michaela, Ryan, Erin, Donna, Kim, Cris, Emily, and Forrest) … as well as the many children and young people who make up Crossroads Church.
Exciting news this week from Tyrell and Rachel Shoemaker in Chicago. You remember Tyrell from his recent visit to Crossroads where he shared about their new work with Legacy Disciple and J29 Homes. If you don’t get the Shoemakers’ email newsletter, you can access it below. I thought this letter gives a good description of the work Tyrell told us about when he was here earlier this year.
Saws, Drills, and Life Lessons

An interesting verse on the principle of Sabbath is found in Luke 23:56. Sabbath rest is so important for a healthy life and vibrant service for God. God has really built us for “6 days on, 1 day off.” The verse in Luke 23 is an easily overlooked part of the crucifixion story. After Jesus had died and Joseph of Arimathea had asked for the body and climbed up (a ladder?) to take the bloody body down, it’s written that the women who were watching followed Joseph and the body of Jesus to the tomb, then they returned home. Then, this little mention: “And on the Sabbath they rested according to the commandment” (Luke 23:56). That seems amazing to me given the circumstances. A small reminder of the importance of our Sabbath rest — not just naps (which we all like on a rest day), but also worship, spiritual renewal, and perhaps spiritual service.
May God bless you all, a special church family.
