Tom’s Midweek Greeting
Crossroads Community Church
December 23, 2019
Notes on the day before Christmas Eve…
Christmas Eve Service, tomorrow night, 6:30 pm, at the Y.
I hope you’ll plan to join us tomorrow evening at the Y for a special time of worship and fellowship. I know you will leave refreshed and refocused on the joy of God coming to our world in the person of Jesus Christ. Bring a friend and/or family member who needs to hear the story on Christmas Eve. We’ll finish by 7:30, and there will be refreshments available after the service.
Thank you for the very kind Christmas gift you gave me and my family yesterday! It’s a blessing to grow in the Lord with you and to serve Him together! This is a unique church made up of people growing in their relationship with the Lord. That’s a wonderful thing! Thank you for the care you provide me and my family!
Moss House New Years Dinner
The Moss House dinner from Crossroads has been purchased, cooked, and delivered. Thanks especially to Judi and Phill Edwards for their extra effort in putting this meal together. To provide this year-end meal to the residents of the Moss House is a small blessing we’ve had the opportunity to participate in for several years now. Thank you!
Sunday worship at the Y, December 29.
We’ll be back at the Y this coming Sunday morning at 10:00 for our final worship service of 2019. I hope to see you there!
Crossroads Connection – Sunday, January 5.
Mark your calendar for our next Crossroads Connection – light lunch and ministry meeting time following the worship service – on Sunday, January 5. Food and drink will be provided. We’ll have a few minutes after the meal to exchange information about what’s going on at Crossroads; then there will be time for any ministry teams needing to meet to do so. This is a new habit we’re developing at Crossroads. I hope you’ll plan to join the family that day. Our worship theme that day will be “Christ & Crossroads” – a look at the importance of the local church, and the importance of God’s work at Crossroads. This will be an adaptation of our Crossroads 101 membership course, for newcomers and old-timers! We will also resume Children’s Church during the sermon time on January 5.
Congregational Meeting – Sunday, January 12.
We’ll have a congregational meeting immediately following the worship service on January 12. Everyone is welcome to attend. We will elect an elder to the open position on the Elder Board. (Cris Rodriguez is the nominee for that position.) We’ll also vote on the proposed 2020 church budget. The meeting should not be long. Thanks for your willingness to hang around after worship!
Faith is Confidence in God
We had a special time together yesterday as we considered who Mary and Joseph really were, and what we can learn from their willingness to take on the responsibility God gave them. I appreciate your thoughts about faith, and about what it’s like to enter into a “world of the impossible,” such as Mary and Joseph did. “Nothing will be impossible with God,” was the angel’s message to Mary (Luke 1:37). Mary’s humble response was, “Behold, the bond-slave of the Lord; may it be done to me according to your word” (Luke 1:38). She entered into a world of the impossible, and, by faith, she entered into God’s “game plan.” May our faith and our willingness be like hers! Someone has given this simple definition of faith: “Faith is confidence in God.” Let’s keep that in mind as we finish out this year and begin a new one!
The Joy of Christmas
“And this is the testimony: that God has given us eternal life, and this life is in His Son” (1 John 5:11).
I hope to see you tomorrow evening at 6:30!
