Tom’s Midweek Greeting
Crossroads Community Church
Nevada MO
We will appreciate spring when it gets here, won’t we! It won’t be long!
If it’s ever necessary to cancel Sunday worship, we will communicate that to you in four ways as early as possible, either early Sunday morning or Saturday evening:
- We will try to text everyone.
- We will send an email.
- We’ll put a message up on the Crossroads website, nevadacrossroadschurch.org.
- We’ll post a message on the Crossroads Facebook page.
Lord willing, we’ll meet this Sunday at the Y! It will be cold outside, but our hearts (and hopefully the gym!) will be warm inside. 10:00 this Sunday at the Osage Prairie Y. If you’re not able to make it, the sermon will be posted on our Facebook page by Saturday evening.
As you consider the cold, wintry weather outside your window, let it direct your thoughts to events and teachings in God’s Word:
— God said to Noah, after the flood : “While the earth remains, seedtime and harvest, cold and heat, summer and winter, and day and night shall not cease” (Genesis 8:22).
— Elihu, the young man who appears at the end of Job, in speaking of God’s sovereignty, said : “Out of the south comes the storm, and out of the north the cold. From the breath of God ice is made, and the expanse of the waters is frozen” (Job 37:10).
— “He casts forth His ice as fragments ; who can stand before His cold ?” (Psalm 147:17)
— “Like one who takes off a garment on a cold day, or like vinegar on soda, is he who sings songs to a troubled heart” (Proverbs 25:20)
— Yet, … “like cold water to a weary soul, so is good news from a distant land” (Proverbs 25:25)
— The prophet Nahum, in prophesying of the destruction of Nineveh, said : “Your guardsmen are like locusts and grasshoppers that settle in stone walls on a cold day. When the sun rises, they flee” (Nahum 3:17).
— Jesus said that whoever gives a cup of cold water to a little one in His name will not lose their reward (Matthew 10:42).
— Jesus also said that as the end of the world and His return draw near, most people’s love will grow cold (Matthew 24:12).
— Peter was standing with slaves and officers in the courtyard of the Jewish High Priest on the night of Jesus’ trial, warming his hands by the fire, for it was cold (John 18:18).
— Paul, shipwrecked on the Island of Malta, was building a fire on a cold, rainy day when a snake in Paul’s bundle of sticks fastened itself onto Paul’s hand (Acts 28:2)
— Paul later wrote that in his service for Christ he had often been in hardship, “through many sleepless nights, in hunger and thirst, often without food, in cold and exposure” (2 Corinthians 11:27).
— Jesus said of the Christians in Laodicea that they were “neither cold nor hot” (Revelation 3:15). How about us?
