Tom’s Midweek Greeting February 16, 2021

Tom’s Midweek Greeting
Crossroads Community Church
Nevada MO

We’ve come through a few challenging days with the heavy snowfall, dangerously cold temperatures, and each one of us dealing with the ordinary and out-of-the-ordinary challenges of life.

Even though the temperature is 5° as I write this, we also know that spring is really just around the corner!  I’m reminded of a line in a song from the musical “Easter Parade” that talks about “the thrill that comes with spring when anything can happen”!

I think that’s an exciting, optimistic thought that should be the attitude of the follower of Jesus all year long.

In a sermon I was able to hear recently, the speaker made some good points about the will of God for your life and mine.  “What’s God’s will for my life?” is a question we sometimes ask as one season of life transitions into another.

Here are two or three points from that sermon:

— God’s will for your life is arranged so that you will grow day by day in your faith in Jesus Christ.  (Think about that for a minute!  That’s a different perspective on things, isn’t it?)  God’s will is not, first of all, our happiness.  Rather, happiness will be a by-product of growing in faith in Jesus!

— God wants you to know Him better.  Instead of praying, “Lord, show me Your will for my life,” we should pray instead, “Lord, show me Yourself!”

— Knowing God is more important than knowing your future.  God is like a parent – moms and dads want their children to love them more than the things they do for their children.  As we grow in the knowledge of God, we will gain understanding of, and learn to be content with, God’s will for our life.

May God forgive us that we’ve wanted to know the future more than we’ve wanted to know Him!  May He give us hearts and minds to see and hear Him … and to believe that with Him all things are possible (Matthew 19:26)!

Happening at Crossroads

Thanks for your patience in waiting on the weather last weekend.  We’re sorry we couldn’t meet for worship, but we’ll have a great time this coming Sunday, Lord willing, starting at 10:00.  If you haven’t watched last Sunday’s sermon on the Crossroads Facebook page, please take the time to do that.  We’ll build this Sunday on last week’s sermon on spiritual gifts.  We’re talking about building a strong church community; the gifts God has given you and me help us in that task!

Worship Sunday, 10:00 a.m., Osage Prairie YMCA.  Come early or hang around afterwards and enjoy some much-needed fellowship.  Birthright baby bottles are due back this Sunday.

Momentum Home Group, Sunday, 6 pm.  At my (Tom’s) house, *contact us for location*.  “Blessed are the gentle, for they shall inherit the earth.”  This week’s video will be such a help to all of us in understanding God’s real blessings for our lives!

Youth Group, Wednesday the 24th, 6:30 pm.  If you’re 16 years old and up through college age, there’s going to be food and fun Wednesday, February 24, at the Rodriguez home, *contact us for location*, starting at 6:30 pm.  Check with Jessica or Ryan if you have questions or need directions.

Crossroads Connection, Sunday the 28th, immediately following worship.  A great time to connect and bring everyone up to speed on what’s happening at Crossroads!  Plan to stay after worship on the 28th.  Bring a soup or a casserole to share.  Drinks and paperware will be provided.  We’ll have good food and good fellowship!  An elders meeting is scheduled following the fellowship.

Gym Floor Resurfacing / HVAC Repair.  The YMCA will be resurfacing the gym floor next week beginning on Monday.  This may mean we will need to meet in the lobby for worship on the 28th – we’ll wait and see.  Also, this spring the Y will replace the HVAC unit that heats and cools the gym.  We will need to move the church’s belongings and equipment while that work is taking place.

One thing I have asked from the Lord, that I shall seek:  that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the Lord and to meditate in His temple.
For in the day of trouble He will conceal me in His tabernacle; in the secret place of His tent he will hide me; He will lift me up on a rock.
And now my head will be lifted up above my enemies around me, and I will offer in His tent sacrifices with shouts of joy;
I will sing, yes, I will sing praises to the Lord!
Psalm 27:4-6

I hope to see you on Sunday!  Reach out and check on someone this week!
Tom
