TMG
Hello, Crossroads Family!
I hope you’re having a good first week of the year! I enjoyed our worship and fellowship last Sunday morning!
There are a number of people in our church family circle who need our prayers :
- Heather Hall’s neighbor, Cassie, and Cassie’s daughter.
- Julie Kemper asks for prayer for her son-in-law, Ben, who is battling kidney disease.
- Judi Edwards asks prayer for her sister-in-law, Angie, who, in addition to caring for her husband Dwight who has been through some severe medical circumstances, must also care for an injury and infection to her own leg.
Please pray for the spiritual and emotional needs of these loved ones as well. Thank you! Take time to pray for someone in the church family. We shared some requests with each other last Sunday morning. I hope you’ve taken time to pray for the person you were paired up with. Pray for Mitch Shiffer who was with us Sunday and has recently moved to Nevada. Thank you!
We’re gearing up for a great semester together! I will not be preaching this Sunday, but I’m very excited that you’ll be able to hear from my good friend Dale Losch. Dale is president of Crossworld, a disciple-making mission with more than 300 disciple-makers serving in over 35 countries of the world. Dale and his wife Jerusha have been friends of mine since we met in France in 1988! That’s a long time ago! I’m grateful for their friendship and encouragement over the years.
I’ll be in Tampa, Florida, this weekend to speak at a Parenting Conference being organized by Oakwood Church where my son-in-law, Jason, is on staff. I look forward to seeing Emma and Jason and the kids, and to enjoying the warm sunshine of Florida for a few days! Please pray for me as I give some teaching on parenting during three sessions on Saturday morning and afternoon. Thank you!
Coming Up
Elders Meeting – Sunday, January 15
Be in prayer for our new Elder Board as we will meet for the first time following worship on the 15th. We’re trying to schedule ministry leaders to meet with us at our first couple meetings of the year. So if I contact you for a time to meet with us, just know it’s not like you’re in trouble, or something like that! We’re simply wanting to coordinate ministry and move us all forward together! Thanks for your willingness!
Home Group – Sunday evening, January 15
I hope you’ll plan to be at Home Group on the 15th. I’m excited about this particular session on “Discovering Our Spiritual Family Tree,” as we’ll hear about the beginnings of the Church in America. How did we get to be who we are as American Christians? So many currents in the American Church, and you’ll start to understand why. January 15, 6 pm, at my house, 628 W. Arch Street. Everyone is welcome!
Baby Bottle Boomerang
Kim Reedy will be coordinating our participation in the Baby Bottle Boomerang fundraising project for Nevada Birthright. Be watching and listening for your opportunity to participate. The campaign begins on “Sanctity of Human Life Sunday,” January 22.
“Return to your home, and declare how much God has done for you,” is how the English Standard Version puts Luke 8:39 (Jesus speaking to the man cured of demon-possession).
The King James Version says it this way: “Show what great things God hath done unto thee.”
Someone (not sure who) created this little saying, based on that King James translation:
Oh that our lives may show for Jesus!
There is so much power in a life that speaks of Him!
When this is so, it will be easy to tell of Him.
I pray that our lives show for Jesus!
