Hello, Crossroads Family!
Thanks to all who contributed to a very special day of relaxing fellowship and great food last Sunday! Even though we needed rain, it was a nice touch to have the sun break through and a cool breeze help us enjoy the shade at Radio Spring Park.
Our next church get-together is scheduled for Sunday, July 16, following the worship service. We’re invited to the Vestals’ home for hot dogs, yard games, and swimming, for all who would like to come. Mark your calendars; we’ll have a lot of fun! Hot dogs, buns, and condiments will be provided. We’ll need folks to bring sides and desserts again! Sunday, July 16, following worship.
Someone once wrote that the church will win the world when we realize the importance of fellowship or, as this person put it, the “Big Miracle of Love.” When we love well, and do life well, people are attracted to that. Of course, true fellowship goes beyond a picnic only, but sharing time together, as we’re doing this summer, is an important and good part of ongoing fellowship.
Friendship comes to us in many different ways and at many different levels. Sometimes we assume that in a church, since we all share the same mission (loving God; making disciples), we will all get along. But friendships in the church also require hard work, patience, time, and experience. I’m grateful for the variety of friendships I experience at Crossroads. The great British preacher Charles Spurgeon once said, “Friendship is one of the sweetest joys in life. Many might have failed beneath the bitterness of their trial had they not found a friend.”
“A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another, even as I have loved you, that you also love one another” (John 13:34-35).
Happening at Crossroads …
Arrival of Misha and Kristina and children.
We’re excited about the arrival in Nevada today of Misha, Kristina, Kamila, and Matthew Dubinin from Ukraine. As you know, Misha was a high school exchange student in the Vestals’ home a few years ago. Would you pray for the Dubinin family? They have had a long journey and have many changes ahead of them. Let’s look for opportunities to share Christ’s love as He gives us opportunity.
Home Group tomorrow (Thursday) night
Everyone is invited to Home Group this Thursday night, 6:00 – 7:15, at Cris and Donna’s home, *contact us for address*. We’ll continue our study from A Long Obedience in the Same Direction, a study in the Psalms of Ascents. You’re welcome to join even if you missed the first two studies!
Youth Group
Youth Group will meet next Tuesday, June 27, at noon, at Jessica’s home, *contact us for location*. Come for lunch and to finish the study on knowing God!
Interested in Baptism?
If you’re interested in being baptized, please let me know. We will baptize anyone interested while at the Vestals on July 16.
Women of Joy
Don’t forget to let Heather Hall know if you want to sign up for the Women of Joy conference in Branson this fall. The deadline for a reduced-price registration is coming up.
Congregational Meeting, August 20
Please mark your calendar for Sunday, August 20, when we’ll have a short congregational meeting to look over finances and plans for the fall. Thank you!
Worship this Sunday morning, 10:00 at the Community Center
Revelation 21, the next-to-last chapter of the Bible, will be the subject of our sermon. A new heaven, new earth, and a gigantic city called the New Jerusalem! What’s it all about? How do these things affect us in the future, but also right now?
Tom vacation
I’ll be taking some vacation time July 3-15. I’ll be in and out of Nevada but won’t be answering my phone or emails. If you have an emergency need, please reach out to one of the other elders. Dennis Painter, currently chaplain at Nevada Regional Medical Center, a former pastor at Crossroads, and a longtime acquaintance of mine, will fill in for me for the sermon on July 9. Thanks for the care and support you have always shown me and my family!
I hope to see you this Sunday morning! The sermon will be posted on Facebook if you’re unable to be with us! There are many reasons for praise and thanks at Crossroads this week, and several ongoing needs. Thanks for your prayers!
